I remember the day I left my dream job.
There’s a moment most high performers hit — when everything looks great from the outside… but doesn’t quite feel right on the inside.
Mine came in the middle of an NBA season.
At the time, I had the job I dreamed about back when I was still a grad student.
Working courtside with the Toronto Raptors. Leading mental performance strategy at the highest level of sport. Surrounded by a team of brilliant, elite professionals.
It was everything I’d worked toward.
And yet — something felt off.
My wife and I had just had our daughter. We were raising her in a foreign country with no family support. The travel, the pace, the pressure… it all started to chip away at what mattered most.
Not just to me as a professional — but to me as a person.
So I made the decision to step away. Not because I didn’t love the work. But because I couldn’t ignore what my values were telling me anymore.
That conversation — and everything that came after — is what this podcast episode is all about...
🎙 We talk about:
- Foundational elements to build a practice that serves others and feels good to you
- How I went from college sports to the NBA (and why I almost said no)
- What happened behind the scenes of leaving pro sports
- The experiment that helped me 4x my business in 30 days
- My unique strategy to confidently negotiate prices that reflect your true worth
- How focusing on a specific market enhances credibility and trustworthiness
- The difference between coaching and therapy most pros don’t see
- And the biggest mistake I made building my own practice
It’s one of the most honest convos I’ve had about the business of being a high performer — and how to build a career that fits your life, not just your resume.

P.S. There’s a part of the episode where I talk about how narrowing my niche changed everything — and why saying “no” to the wrong work made room for the right opportunities.
If you’ve been stuck saying “yes” out of fear — this one might hit home.
